The RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set, commonly known as Standard 11, gives you the essential safety knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely in surface coal mining operations.

This nationally recognised skill set is designed for new entrants to the coal mining industry, contractors entering mine sites and existing workers who need to refresh or formalise their safety competencies. It covers the critical skills every worker needs to recognise hazards, follow site procedures, communicate effectively and respond when things go wrong.

This practical, industry-focused training will help you learn how to:

  • Work safely and follow workplace health and safety procedures
  • Identify hazards and apply local risk controls
  • Follow mine site processes, policies and procedures
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and work teams
  • Apply an initial response to workplace injuries
