What You’ll Learn

This practical, hands-on course will teach you how to:

  • Plan and prepare for hydraulic excavator operations
  • Interpret work instructions, site plans and operating procedures
  • Identify hazards, environmental issues and workplace risks
  • Conduct pre-start, start-up and operational checks
  • Identify, report and respond to equipment faults
  • Walk, manoeuvre and position the excavator safely
  • Adjust operating techniques to suit ground and site conditions
  • Load and discharge materials using the excavator bucket
  • Side cast and distribute bulk materials
  • Load materials into trucks and other handling equipment
  • Work within equipment capacity and load limits
  • Attach buckets and connect auxiliary hydraulic lines where required
