What You’ll Learn

This practical, hands on course will teach you how to:

  • Plan and prepare for grader operations
  • Interpret work instructions, plans, maps and specifications
  • Identify hazards and apply effective risk controls
  • Read and apply geological and survey information
  • Conduct pre-start, start-up and operational checks
  • Identify and report equipment faults or defects
  • Drive, manoeuvre and position the grader safely
  • Apply grading, levelling and shaping techniques
  • Use the blade and ripper effectively
  • Build and maintain stockpiles
  • Carry out towing and pushing activities where required
  • Monitor machine performance, indicators and alarms
  • Work safely around people, plant and overhead powerlines
  • Park, shut down and secure the grader correctly
  • Complete workplace records and operational documentation

Participants must safely complete grader operations on at least two occasions and demonstrate a minimum of three grader activities, such as manoeuvring, blade application, ripper application, towing and pushing, or building and maintaining stockpiles.
