Conduct Lifting Operations

RIIHAN203E – Conduct Lifting Operations

Plan the lift. Control the load. Get the job done safely.

Lifting heavy equipment and materials takes more than strength—it takes planning, precision and the right skills.

The RIIHAN203E Conduct Lifting Operations course gives you the practical knowledge and hands-on capability to plan and carry out lifting activities safely across mining, construction, quarrying and other resources and infrastructure workplaces.

You will learn how to prepare lifting plans, select suitable equipment, connect loads correctly and control load movements using cranes, hoists and portable lifting devices.

What You’ll Learn

This practical, industry-focused course will teach you how to:

  • Plan and prepare for lifting operations
  • Interpret work instructions, procedures and lift requirements
  • Identify hazards and apply effective risk controls
  • Develop preliminary lifting plans
  • Confirm load dimensions, weight and centre of gravity
  • Read load charts, sling tags and equipment information
  • Select and inspect lifting equipment, tools and materials
  • Confirm safe working loads and equipment limitations
  • Connect loads to lifting and load-movement equipment
  • Use cranes, chain hoists, chain blocks and lever hoists
  • Complete vertical and lateral load movements
  • Direct and communicate load movements safely
  • Monitor load stability throughout the lift
  • Respond to changing conditions, equipment faults and hazards
  • Inspect, clean and store lifting equipment after use

Participants must demonstrate lifting operations on at least two occasions, including vertical lifts and lateral load movement using suitable lifting devices.

Who Should Enrol?

This course is ideal for people working or looking to expand their skills in:

  • Mining and resources
  • Civil construction and infrastructure
  • Quarrying and extractive industries
  • Industrial maintenance and shutdowns
  • Mechanical and trade-based roles
  • Processing plants and workshops
  • Materials handling and lifting operations

Build Skills That Carry Serious Weight

Safe lifting requires teamwork, communication and attention to detail. One incorrect calculation or poorly connected load can place people, equipment and operations at risk.

Our experienced trainers use realistic lifting activities and practical workplace scenarios to help you develop the confidence to select equipment, control loads and complete lifting tasks safely.

Check the load. Choose the gear. Take control of the lift. Book your training today.
