The RIIHAN301E Operate Elevating Work Platform course gives you the knowledge and hands-on experience required to plan, prepare and complete elevated work platform operations across mining, construction, drilling, quarrying and industrial workplaces.
From scissor lifts and vertical lifts to smaller boom-type platforms, elevating work platforms help workers safely access difficult and elevated work areas. This nationally recognised unit develops the confidence, awareness and operating skills needed to get the job done safely.
What You’ll Learn
This practical, hands-on course will teach you how to:
- Plan and prepare for elevating work platform operations
- Interpret work instructions and workplace procedures
- Identify hazards and apply effective risk controls
- Inspect the work area and assess ground conditions
- Conduct pre-start, start-up and operational checks
- Select and use the correct personal protective equipment
- Position, stabilise and operate the platform safely
- Elevate, lower and manoeuvre the platform
- Work safely around structures, people and other equipment
- Identify overhead hazards and restricted clearances
- Monitor changing workplace conditions
- Respond to equipment faults and emergency situations
- Park, shut down and secure the equipment correctly
- Complete required workplace records and documentation

RIIHAN301E applies to operating elevating work platforms at any height but does not provide a High Risk Work Licence. A WP High Risk Work Licence is generally required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more. Licensing, site-authorisation and competency requirements may vary between jurisdictions, industries and employers.
